Student Experience

Friends

In addition to the powerful and transformative academic experiences students gain from MIT Sloan, life at the School is enriching in a number of other ways. Set in one of the most vibrant and historic cities in America, the campus lies at the hub of a vast artistic, intellectual, and economic crossroads. Drawing from the resources of Boston, Cambridge and MIT, students find an extraordinary number of ways to relax, entertain friends, or cultivate new interests and professional skills.

But perhaps the most exciting aspect of the MIT Sloan experience is the student body itself. To become part of the MIT extended family is to find oneself surrounded by remarkable thinkers and leaders from all over the world. With students from every conceivable background and area of expertise, the community of learners at MIT Sloan is one of the most creative, inspiring and supportive in the world.

The School also offers a welcome to families via Significant Others of Sloan (SOS), which, through weekly get-togethers, provides valuable advice in everything from finding childcare and navigating the housing market, to simply appreciating all that Boston and New England have to offer.

Student voices: Inyoung Maeng, M.Fin. ‘10
“I decided to enroll in the M.Fin. program because of MIT’s reputation as a breeding ground for creativity and innovation. One can take a course financial theory in any school, but few schools can claim to have the resources, faculty members, student body, and track record of innovation that match MIT. I knew I wanted more than simply taking courses and reading textbooks. What I wanted was to immerse myself in an intense academic environment where excellence is not only encouraged, but expected. And I know MIT would demand nothing less. Also, as I come from computer engineering background, being able to choose electives from other disciplines was very attractive, because I have a deep interest in many areas of technology.”
