Special thanks to our event host, Morgan Stanley.

Our special guest will be:
Richard Schmalensee, John C Head III dean, MIT Sloan School of Management

In June 2007, Professor Richard Schmalensee will conclude his nine year tenure as the John C Head III Dean of the MIT Sloan School of Management. While dean, Schmalensee has supported wide-ranging curriculum renewal leading to the creation of, among other initiatives, the Sloan Innovation Period (SIP), the MIT Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership, the certificate program in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the dual-degree Biomedical Enterprise Program, and the undergraduate minor in management.

The School's global presence continued to grow with the creation of the award winning Global Entrepreneurship Laboratory, the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the China Management Education Project, and the creation of similar programs in Mexico and Korea. The MIT Leadership Center celebrated its official launch, as did the School's new alumni magazine, and the School celebrated its 50th anniversary with a gala Convocation in 2002. The MIT Sloan Executive Education Program more than tripled its revenue and created the award winning BP Projects Academy, a joint venture with the School of Engineering.

The School raised more that $220 million dollars for programmatic and capital priorities, notably including the new facility for MIT Sloan. And, fittingly, as Schmalensee's tenure comes to an end, the School will celebrate the official groundbreaking of this magnificent 209,000 square foot building.

In fall 2007, Professor Schmalensee will begin his 30th year as a member of the MIT Sloan faculty.
