  • MIT and the Digital Economy: The Second Machine Age Conference

    On April 4, 2014, the MIT Sloan School of Management hosted, MIT and the Digital Economy: The Second Machine Age, a conference held in New York City led by faculty members Erik Brynjolfsson, PhD '91, Director, Initiative on the Digital Economy; Schussel Family Professor of Management Science, MIT Sloan School of Management and Andrew McAfee, '88, '89, LGO '90, Co-Director, Initiative on the Digital Economy where over 350 alumni were in attendance. This half-day conference featured panel presentations and faculty talks from Brynjolfsson and McAfee as well as Sandy Pentland, PhD '82, Professor, Initiative on the Digital Economy; Director, Media Lab Entrepreneurship Program and Sinan Aral, PhD '07, Professor, Initiative on the Digital Economy. Alumnus John Thain, SB '77, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, CIT was featured as well. The program was centered around a new Initiative on the Digital Economy at MIT which is a major effort addressing the impact of digital technology on businesses, the economy, and society. MIT and the Sloan School of Management, with their traditions of combining rigor and relevance, are uniquely qualified to lead conversations, research, and development in this area.
