Privacy Policy
The MIT Sloan School of Management has adopted the following privacy policy for the information collected and used on the password-protected sections of the MIT Sloan Alumni Site ("the Alumni Portal"). When changes to the privacy policy are made, they will be posted on this page. Continued use of the Alumni Portal constitutes acceptance of the privacy policy. If you have a question about this privacy policy, please contact MITSloanAlumniRelations@mit.edu.
Access to the Alumni Portal
The Alumni Portal is managed by the MIT Sloan Office of External Relations and MIT Sloan Technology Services for the purpose of connecting alumni with each other and with MIT Sloan. Additionally, this database is used as a resource for current MIT Sloan students to connect with alumni.
Access to the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory
The MIT Sloan Alumni Directory is one of the password-protected services offered on the Alumni Portal.
Individuals who have access to the Directory include alumni, affiliate alumni, MIT Sloan students, faculty, and staff. MIT Sloan reserves the right to provide MIT Sloan Alumni Directory access to MIT employees, consultants, and agents who have a legitimate need to access the Alumni Portal.
Information Sharing and Use
Personal information available on the Alumni Portal includes name, contact information, employment information, education history, and class notes.
MIT Sloan will use personal information collected and stored on the Alumni Portal, and specifically in the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory, for MIT Sloan alumni-related outreach, development, and programming. MIT Sloan does not sell alumni, faculty, staff, or student information to anyone.
Alumni clubs, regional contacts, student clubs, and affinity groups are important partners of MIT Sloan, and as such MIT Sloan may provide such groups with personal information about alumni, including contact information, taken from the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory, consistent with communications preferences and suppression settings indicated by individual alumni.
MIT Sloan reserves the right to share such personal information under special circumstances, including disclosures required by law or court order or under circumstances necessary to protect the legal rights, including the intellectual property rights, of MIT Sloan. MIT Sloan may also provide alumni contact data to student loan providers or their agents. MIT Sloan reserves the right to provide such personal information to other individuals and institutions who are not users of the Alumni Portal who have a legitimate need to know the information.
Suppression Settings and Communications Preferences
Suppression settings in the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory allow alumni to share profile information (e.g., home address, work address, employer) with specific constituencies of the MIT Sloan community (i.e., faculty, staff, students, alumni, and affiliate alumni). Alumni can select to hide some (i.e., home address only, business address only) or all of their personal information from each constituency. Unless changed by the individual, the default suppression setting is "open" allowing all authorized users to access an individual's profile information.
Communications preferences in the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory allow alumni to receive only certain forms of communication from MIT Sloan. Alumni may indicate, by way of communications preferences, that they do or do not want to receive in-print or email communications about news and events including reunions and fundraising campaigns.
Synchronization with the Infinite Connection
Some updates made to the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory will be synchronized with the MIT Alumni Association Directory located on the MIT Infinite Connection. Updates to home and business mailing addresses and phone numbers will be synchronized; some other updates, such as email address, mobile phone number, salutation, preferred class year, URL, job function, job industry, will not be synchronized.
Suppression selections made on the MIT Sloan Alumni Directory will not be synchronized with suppression settings on the MIT Alumni Association Directory. At this time, users must update profile information, suppression settings, and communication preferences on both directories.
Cookies
Cookies are used to store active login session information in order to allow visitors to move between the public and the secure login areas of the Alumni Portal without repeated logins. Cookies are also used to gather aggregate data to improve future services. MIT Sloan does not disclose information about any individual's use of the Alumni Portal to any third parties, unless legally required.
Security
MIT Sloan has taken reasonable precautions to secure the personal information that is accessible through the Alumni Portal. The Alumni Portal is password protected to limit access to registered members of the MIT Sloan community. Although this precaution should reasonably protect personal information available through the Alumni Portal from unauthorized access and abuse, some risk is present any time information is shared over the Internet.
