Dean's Message

Dear MIT Sloan alumni,

I am delighted to report on the great success of MIT Sloan Reunion 2007. More than 800 alumni and their guests returned to campus from 25 countries for four days this June, reconnecting with faculty and fellow graduates while making new connections throughout the MIT Sloan community. Over 115 alumni reunion class committee organizers and volunteer speakers helped drive over 37 compelling events, and were critical to making this Reunion such a well-attended success. Please join me in thanking them for their efforts.

Camaraderie, celebration, and pride in MIT Sloan permeated the Reunion events. This spirit was evident from the opening C-Function reception on the Sloan plaza to Sunday's family barbecue — where the smiles and laughter of the many alumni and their children energized everyone. This spirit was also evident during the Back to the Classroom sessions, where our world-renowned faculty members and a member of the class of ’77 led lively conversations about challenging management issues. And it was unmistakable at the Dean's Luncheon, where we were finally able to celebrate the ground breaking of the new MIT Sloan building (E62). This Reunion was my last as dean, and I was delighted to see your enthusiasm and smiles during this very special weekend.

The mission of MIT Sloan Alumni Relations is to connect alumni to the School and to each other, and to help alumni advance their careers. The success of MIT Sloan Reunion 2007, the number of alumni who returned, and the spirit they exhibited throughout the weekend are great steps along this path.

Your feedback on your Reunion is also very important to us, so please help continue to improve future Reunions by taking a moment to complete the Reunion evaluation form. Thank you in advance!

Warm regards,
Richard Schmalensee
