User Agreement
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE ACCESSING THE INFORMATION IN THE MIT SLOAN ALUMNI PORTAL AND DIRECTORY (THE ALUMNI SECTION OF THE MIT SLOAN WEB SITE). MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ("MIT") FOR ITS SLOAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT ("MIT SLOAN") IS WILLING TO PROVIDE YOU ACCESS TO THIS INFORMATION ONLY ON THE CONDITION THAT YOU ACCEPT ALL OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. BY CLICKING ON THE "AGREE" BUTTON BELOW OR PROCEEDING TO USE THE MIT SLOAN ALUMNI PORTAL, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE LEGALLY BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. THIS IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT THAT STATES THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS THAT GOVERN YOUR USE OF THE MIT SLOAN ALUMNI PORTAL. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, CLICK ON THE "DECLINE" BUTTON OR OTHERWISE INDICATE REFUSAL, AND MAKE NO FURTHER USE OF THE MIT SLOAN ALUMNI PORTAL.
The MIT Sloan Alumni Portal is provided by the MIT Sloan Office of External Relations and MIT Sloan Technology Services, and is designed to facilitate communication among MIT Sloan alumni, faculty, staff, full-time students, affiliate alumni of the MIT Alumni Association (affiliate alumni), and other authorized users (the "MIT Sloan community") for MIT Sloan-related purposes or your own noncommercial, non-philanthropic purposes ("Approved Purposes"). The MIT Sloan Alumni Portal is owned by MIT and its licensors, and is protected by copyright and other applicable laws. MIT grants you, and you accept, a nonexclusive, nontransferable right to access and use the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal for the Approved Purposes, subject to the Privacy Terms for the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal (which are incorporated into this Agreement by reference), and under the following terms and conditions
A. You agree to keep your password confidential. Making the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal available to persons outside of the MIT Sloan community or using this Site other than for the Approved Purposes is a violation of this Agreement. Use by you of information or communications available through the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal for any commercial, public, philanthropic or political purposes not previously approved in writing by MIT is prohibited. Examples of prohibited activities include solicitations for commercial services, marketing products, sales cold-calling, or mass-mailings for commercial purposes. Examples of use for Approved Purposes include developing your professional networks, identifying speakers, and seeking career advice.
B. E-mail Forwarding for Life (EFL) is a service provided by MIT to facilitate communication among individual members of the MIT Sloan community. This service pertains solely to e-mail accounts ending with @sloan.mit.edu and does not apply to e-mail addresses ending with @alum.mit.edu, which are provided and maintained separately through the MIT Alumni Association. Certain uses of this service and Site are inconsistent with the Approved Purposes, including but not limited to (1) activities that are illegal, fraudulent or a violation of any third party rights; (2) use that inaccurately implies endorsement, approval, or sponsorship by MIT (or any individual officer of MIT) or otherwise violates MIT Policy; (3) use that can be confused with official communications of MIT, its Sloan School or its officers, faculty, or staff; (4) use that can be confused with official communications of MIT Sloan Clubs or their officers; (5) mass mailings (sometimes known as spamming). The MIT Sloan Office of External Relations will deny further access to the secure portion of its Site to those who engage in these or similar practices.
C. All e-mail aliases adopted by MIT Sloan Alumni Portal users are subject to approval by the Institute to ensure that the proper image is associated with the Institute. You agree not to impersonate another member of the MIT Sloan community.
D. You may download or copy any downloadable MIT-owned materials displayed in the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal for the Approved Purposes and only for use as authorized in this Agreement; provided, however, that you maintain all copyright, trademark, and other notices contained in such material, and you agree to abide by all additional restrictions contained in any material accessed through the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal (including for any third party material, getting permission from the copyright owner to download, copy, distribute, display or perform it). The materials displayed in the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal may not be given, licensed, or sold to any other individual or organization. Unauthorized copying, reproduction, republishing, uploading, downloading, posting, transmitting, or duplicating of any of the Site material is prohibited.
E. Users shall not restrict nor inhibit any other user from using and enjoying any service on the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal. For example, posting of obscene materials or use of obscene language, posting of vulgar materials or use of vulgar language, or use of abusive, defamatory, profane, harassing or threatening language of any kind as deemed so by MIT Sloan, in its sole discretion, will constitute a violation of these terms governing the use of the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal. Additionally, users shall not upload, transmit, distribute or otherwise publish any materials on or through the Site which violates the property (including without limitation copyright or trademark), privacy or publicity rights of others, is in violation of applicable laws, contain a virus or any other harmful component. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MIT, and its trustees, directors, officers, faculty, employees, students, agents, and contractors from and against any and all losses, claims, damages, costs, and expenses that may arise from your posting of materials to the Site or your violation of this agreement.
F. Send mail to DirectoryMisuse@sloan.mit.edu if: you receive a harassing or offensive e-mail, zephr/instant message, chain letter or other communication from a member of the MIT Sloan community; you receive mass mailings from a member of the MIT Sloan community advertising non-approved events or sales;you are bothered by offensive images on the Site; your password is stolen; you are disturbed by inappropriate postings to or inappropriate behavior regarding the Site; you wish to file notification of an alleged copyright infringement; or you encounter other behavior you think may violate this Agreement, be illegal, or be against MIT policy of MITnet rules of Use. While DirectoryMisuse@sloan.mit.edu is monitored regularly, it is not the appropriate place to send email if you feel in danger, in which case you should contact the police immediately.
G. MIT is not responsible for screening communications in advance, and MIT will not actively monitor the use of the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal. For this reason, it is essential that the users of the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal report any abuses or misuse of the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal to DirectoryMisuse@sloan.mit.edu. MIT Sloan reserves the right to take actions against the user, which may include editing or deleting a user's posted material, or immediately terminating and denying a user further access to the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal if MIT Sloan, in its sole discretion, determines that such user violates this Agreement or any applicable laws or regulations, which determination by MIT shall be final and binding on the user.
H. The reliability of the information and material available through the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal is largely dependent upon the actions of the MIT Sloan community registrants. MIT makes no representations or warranties about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of this information or the material posted by users of the Site, and disclaims any liability therefore.
I. THE SITE IS PROVIDED AS IS. MIT DOES NOT WARRANT THE SITE, THE INFORMATION OR ANY MATERIAL CONTAINED ON THE SITE, OR THAT THE SITE WILL OPERATE ERROR-FREE OR THAT THE SITE AND ITS SERVER ARE FREE OF COMPUTER VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL MATERIAL. MIT DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, NON-INFRINGEMENT, TITLE, AND FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT SHALL MIT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES RESULTING FROM THE USE, MISUSE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE INFORMATION OR MATERIALS AVAILABLE IN THE MIT SLOAN ALUMNI PORTAL, OR THE CONTENT OF ANY MESSAGE SENT BY OR TO SITE USERS.
J. By using the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal, you agree to release MIT, and its trustees, directors, officers, faculty, employees, students, agents, and contractors from and against any and all losses, claims, damages, costs, and expenses that may arise from the use, misuse, or inability to use the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal or the content of any message sent by or to Site users.
K. Please note that MIT may revise or discontinue any aspect of the Site at its discretion, including its content or features, at any time and without notice. In addition, MIT reserves the right to revise the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement by posting them on this page, and your continued use of the Site constitutes your agreement to comply with such amendments. Accordingly, you should routinely review these terms to ensure that you are familiar with any changes made.
L. This User Agreement and the Privacy Terms constitute the entire agreement between you, the User, and MIT regarding access and use of the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal. MIT and Massachusetts Institute of Technology are trademarks of MIT. The resolution of any dispute relating to this Agreement or the Site shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its choice of law provisions, and you agree to submit to the federal or state court of competent jurisdiction sitting in Massachusetts. By clicking on the "Accept" button, you agree with MIT to abide by the terms and conditions of use set forth above for the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal. If you cannot accept these terms and conditions, please click on the "Decline" button to indicate that you cannot accept this agreement and do not wish to utilize the MIT Sloan Alumni Portal.
