For Clara Brenner, MBA ’12, founding her own company after graduation from MIT Sloan was not the original plan. “I loved the idea of entrepreneurship, but I thought I would go back into commercial real estate after graduation,” she explains. Her involvement as co–director of the MIT Sloan Women in Management (SWIM) Conference this past February, though, allowed her the opportunity to hear from many successful women entrepreneurs. “The SWIM Conference made entrepreneurship seem more feasible.” Inspired by the conference and with the guidance of the Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship and MIT Sloan faculty, Brenner and fellow 2012 MIT Sloan graduate Julie Lein have been working hard launching a new company called Tumml, an urban ventures accelerator focused on empowering entrepreneurs to solve urban problems.

Though the company made the move to San Francisco this fall, Brenner is eager to remain an active member of the MIT Sloan community. As co–chair of the MBA Class Gift Committee this past year, and now a class agent, she sees membership in the MIT Sloan Dean’s Circle as an important part of maintaining her involvement. “Many students want to be an influential voice at MIT Sloan after they graduate,” she says. “Giving to the MIT Sloan Annual Fund and becoming a member of the Dean’s Circle is a way to stay in touch with this place that I love and the leaders who are shaping the School’s future.”
