May 2007 Groundbreaking
Several of our donors joined us at the May 2007 Groundbreaking of our new building. Please see a sampling of photographs, many including President Hockfield and then-Dean Schmalensee, here:
-
Bill (1967) and Joan Porter, our lead donors, were joined by their children at the groundbreaking ceremony.
-
Long-term supporters of MIT Sloan and our students, Marty (1958) and Dena Trust, attended the ground-breaking ceremony for our new building. In addition to their generous support of the construction of the building, the Trusts are providing lasting support to MIT’s Entrepreneurship Center.
-
Bob Pozen, a member of the Building Leadership Group, celebrated at the groundbreaking ceremony. The Pozen Pathway leads from Main Street to the north entrance of the new building.
-
Spencer and Patricia Standish attend the groundbreaking festivities. The Standish Classroom is located on the second floor of the new building.
-
Ron Kurtz (1954), a generous donor to many of MIT’s top priorities, has named the Kurtz Academic Arena, the 2nd floor of the new building. This area of the building supports the School’s intention to bring significant new space for academic and social gatherings to MIT Sloan’s campus.
-
Gary (1968) and Joan Bergstrom generously provided the support to create the Bergstrom Garden, between E62 and E60. In addition, they named the faculty atrium on the 5th floor, immediately to the left off the elevators, in honor of Dean Emeritus William Pounds. The MIT community mourns the loss of Mrs. Bergstrom who passed away on April 6, 2010.
-
Alex d’Arbeloff (1949, pictured here), former chairman of the MIT Corporation, and his wife, Brit (1961, not pictured), generously named the d’Arbeloff Grand Staircase which goes from the 1st to 2nd floor of the building, under the mission statement. The MIT community mourns the loss of Mr. d’Arbeloff, who passed away on July 8, 2008.
-
Ed Roberts (1957), the David Sarnoff Professor of Management Technology at MIT Sloan, and his wife, Nancy, provided generous support to name the first floor of the new building. In addition, Ed served as a fundraising catalyst, encouraging many friends and family members to support construction in his honor.
-
Jamie McCourt (1994), a generous supporter of the construction of our new building, is an active member of the North American Executive Board.
