Dear Recruiter:

Thank you for your support of MIT Sloan.

I am very pleased to present to you the 2008-2009 Employment Report which reflects the continued strong demand for our graduates and students. We remain grateful to our recruiting partners, alumni, and friends of the School for their ongoing commitment to the MIT Sloan School of Management, especially during these challenging economic times. This past year has again proven to be a strong recruiting year for MIT Sloan MBA students, with over 95 percent of the Class of 2008 having reported a job offer by September 6, three months post-graduation.

The largest hiring industries for students continue to be consulting and financial services firms, with almost 80 percent of students accepting a full-time opportunity in the service sector. Approximately 20 percent of students accepted opportunities in the manufacturing sector, rounding out the industry interests among our students. Most interestingly this past year we experienced a significant spike in the number of students choosing to start their own business at graduation, with almost 7 percent of the Class of 2008 opting to begin their post-MBA careers in this way.

Consulting/strategic planning and finance maintain their traditional dominance in the list of job functions that MIT Sloan students accepted. Student interest in a diversity of areas such as operations, marketing/sales, product development/management, and general management/leadership remains strong as well, but in somewhat smaller numbers.

The Career Development Office remains committed to connecting students with opportunities resulting in over 80 percent of students finding full-time job opportunities through the School. We strive to provide a variety of methods for our recruiting partners to reach our students, from scheduled interviews on and off campus to a resume database to job postings, and an annual career fair. We provide personalized services to meet the needs of the wide variety of firms that recruit MIT Sloan MBAs, whether you are looking to hire one summer intern or ten full-time employees. Hiring an MIT Sloan MBA for your organization is always a great investment.

Our goal is to be the school of choice for MBA hirers, and we are committed to making your recruiting experience both positive and productive.

Yours sincerely,
Jacqueline A. Wilbur
