Message from the Director of MIT Sloan CISR

IT has enabled the global economy. As a result, in good times and bad, your firm’s success depends very much on your ability to effectively use IT to capture business opportunities and overcome competitive challenges. The temptation in an economic downturn may be to cut IT spending; your even greater need is to enhance IT effectiveness. We invite you to join us at MIT CISR Summer Session to consider how, even in the midst of cost cutting, you can increase IT effectiveness. Our goals is to help you identify your critical IT challenges and map out plans so that IT becomes a strategic asset supporting long-term growth and profitability.

For over 30 years, MIT Sloan’s Center for Information Systems Research has been studying how firms generate business value from IT. In most cases, we can explain why top performers get better results. At MIT CISR Summer Session, you can analyze your firm's practices in light of research findings to learn, challenge, and change your IT management practices. Participants will debate the research findings, discuss case studies, and share their experiences and best practices with MIT CISR faculty and industry guest speakers.

Rarely do you have the opportunity to step back and think holistically about your approach to IT, to learn from the experiences of others, and to identify the one or two things you might do differently to significantly impact your firm’s adaptation to a crisis and its readiness for future business opportunities. This reflection is the purpose of MIT CISR Summer Session. Please take a day, a few days, or, ideally, a week to explore the implications of our world class research for your organization. Join us—alone or with a team—at MIT this June.
