From there, he became a security specialist working with business managers on business drivers and enablement.

In his current role, Bill analyzes the security market for emerging trends, product opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, and business issues to help lead Cisco Systems' strategic vision for security across North America. He has a firm belief that security is a competitive differentiator if properly applied to business process and regularly meets with CxOs and systems architects of Fortune 500 companies to design, plan, and implement security technologies and solutions to solve business problems.

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center asked Bill to speak to representatives from the United States and eight foreign countries about the threat of Bots and BotNets. He has also been asked to be a keynote speaker on matters of security hosted by many organizations including the FBI, Seattle Infraguard, Core BTS, CISO Roundtable, University of Missouri, University of Iowa, University of Kansas, TechConnect, Atlanta Security Advocates, Linux World NGDC Conference, and the RSA Security Conference. He is also a member of the ISSA, and has presented several topics to that group. He has been interviewed in Network Computing and Information Week magazines in regards to security incidents and best practices. Bill was also featured in an issue of Certification Magazine as the “Go to Guy”.

“Performing matrix management of over 200 technical and sales individual contributors and having direct reports in a highly dynamic environment provides considerable new challenges than what my experience in IT prepared me for. The MIT Sloan education filled the gap between a technology background and a business-relevant management approach to running a large organization. The ability to directly apply these skills upon completion of the programs at Sloan more than justified the cost and time away to Cisco.”
