Hiroyuki “Hiro” Itoh majored in rocket propulsion technology and aero-astro engineering while in college. He has been with the same company, Daikin Industries, Ltd., for the entirety of his career. Before and while he was the director of the Boston Technology office located next to the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Hiro participated in MIT mechanical engineering research programs on advanced HVAC control. In addition, he noticed the important role MIT Sloan was playing in the management of technology. Back in Japan, Hiro decided to pursue all three of the MIT Sloan Executive Certificates so that he would have a complete understanding of the challenges facing the HVAC&R industry and gain insights on how to craft solutions.
“The HVAC&R business is expanding globally and facing various kinds of environmental issues at the same time. A redesign of the whole business model, including reconstruction of the value chain, will become critical. MIT Sloan Executive Education programs are great for engineering-educated people, like me, who are in or are related to the technology innovation field. I made it a point to attend at least one one-week program in each certificate track so that I could deepen my knowledge of the subject and network with the international group of participants.”
