Biography

Dirk Jenter

Dirk Jenter is a Visiting Associate Professor of Finance at MIT Sloan and an Associate Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University. He won the MBA Distinguished Teacher Award at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2012. Before joining Stanford, Professor Jenter was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management where he taught corporate finance in both the MBA and executive education programs. He won the MIT Sloan Teacher of the Year Award in 2005 and the MIT Sloan Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007. Professor Jenter received his undergraduate education at the University of Frankfurt (Germany) and the University of Cambridge (UK), an M.Phil. degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Business Economics from Harvard University.

Professor Jenter's research focuses on the interaction of managers and firms with capital markets. Recent research projects have examined the capital structure decisions of U.S. firms, option and stock compensation for top executives and other employees, insider trading by managers, the role of institutional investors in mergers and acquisitions, and the effects of the business cycle on forced CEO turnover. His research has won several awards and been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Executive Magazine, Smart Money Online, and on CNN. Professor Jenter is a Faculty Research Fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research and serves as a referee for all top finance and economics journals.
