Partners & Families

A growth experience for partners and families
The MIT Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership is a shared adventure for partners and families. Partners are invited to many Sloan Fellows events as well as to a rich variety of intellectual and social activities designed specifically for partners and families. The time away from home becomes a bonding experience for many participants and their spouses, and couples and families look back on the year as one of the most enriching of their lives together.

The men, women, and children who accompany MIT Sloan Fellows are often as excited about the move to Cambridge as the participants themselves. Some have heard from alumni of the parent programs just how rewarding a year together away can be for partners and families. Others are eager to sample the expatriate experience. Because participants are poised to become global leaders, the program is an ideal initiation — in part because of the support system on which the entire Sloan Fellows extended family may draw.

A formative experience for children
For children, meeting peers from all over the world and pursuing study in a new cultural environment is an enduring growth experience. The international friendships they form during the MIT Sloan Fellows Program can be a seminal influence in their lives, and MIT offers family-oriented events and activities to excite their interest in the world of invention and ideas. At year's end, even participants who have come to the program unattached will say they forged many strong friendships within the extended MIT Sloan Fellows family.

Partners explore work, education, and cultural opportunities
The partners of MIT Sloan Fellows often take advantage of the time in Cambridge/Boston to pursue their own professional or educational agenda. One of the most stimulating intellectual communities in the world, the area is home to hundreds of colleges and specialty schools and boasts a healthy job market with positions available in a diverse range of industries.

Even for partners who are looking forward to an unstructured year, Cambridge/Boston offers museums, concert halls, parks, historic sites, shopping centers, and fine restaurants of virtually every culinary description. Not surprisingly, this cosmopolitan hub is one of the most popular places to live in the United States. For families looking to relocate in the suburbs, Boston-area towns offer excellent schools, regular public transportation, and beautiful, tree-lined family neighborhoods.

The MIT Sloan Fellows Program is a dynamic learning opportunity for participants and an enduring growth experience for their families.
“The MIT Sloan Fellows Program is a special experience for partners. The people we met, the cultures we learned about, the friendships we formed, changed our family forever. Every day my three children talk about something they discovered or someone they met during the program. We made friendships that will last a lifetime. That year at MIT was one of the top five experiences of my life.”
