Our primary Latin American initiative is:
ITESM (Monterrey Tech)
MIT Sloan has forged a partnership with ITESM in Mexico to stimulate innovative collaboration between Mexico and the United States. This multifaceted program, a dynamic partnership between ITESM, Mexican industry, and MIT Sloan, includes significant projects within Mexican companies.
Other Latin American initiatives include:
The MIT-Mexico Program
The MIT-Mexico Program offers internships and research opportunities to MIT students who wish to perfect their Spanish while acquiring practical skills in their fields of study. Internships last anywhere from three months to a year, depending on the needs of the company and the availability of the student. While shorter internships can be rewarding, the program encourages longer internships, as the greatest learning often takes place after the first three months of being abroad.
The International Faculty Fellows Program
MIT Sloan offers opportunities for management professors from Mexico to spend a year at MIT Sloan immersed in their core subjects and electives. When they return to their home campuses, they share what they've learned and experienced at MIT with faculty and students.
Global Entrepreneurship Lab — Brazil
A G-Lab team traveled to Brazil to work with ComunIP, an innovative technology company delivering voice-over IP (VoIP). The G-Lab team focused on some of the critical questions that concerned prospective investors, such as the potential international market for the company's product. They also examined ComunIP's technology development strategy, helping the Brazilian management team prioritize and move forward.
Global Entrepreneurship Lab — Uruguay
Assist Uruguay, a software company that develops solutions for logistics and distribution, has been highly competitive in the Latin American market since it was founded in 1990. MIT Sloan G-Lab teams worked with Assist through a process of quality certification, helping them step back and examine the company's internal structure, normalize operating procedures, and ensure that quality levels are consistently high.
Donald Lessard, Epoch Foundation Professor of International Management, is an expert in international corporate strategy and finance. He also directs MIT Sloan's new alliance with ITESM (Monterrey Tech) in Mexico.
