    Transforming healthcare systems

    A Collaborative Approach

    Transforming healthcare management

  • Initiative for Health Systems Innovation

MIT Sloan Initiative for Health Systems Innovation is developing groundbreaking models of healthcare delivery and health management to improve organizational and systems capabilities. MIT Sloan uses an interdisciplinary approach to research and education, and partners with a network of health industry leaders throughout the world. IHSI is partnering with organizations to fundamentally change the cost-effectiveness equation for health, to promote a systems thinking approach to managing and leading change, and to develop new tools and analytical frameworks to improve population health and reduce healthcare costs.

    Faculty Research and Collaboration

MIT Sloan’s proven expertise in managing complex systems includes healthcare research in economics, operations management, organizational design, system dynamics, and health IT. MIT Sloan is uniquely positioned to bring lasting change to U.S. and global healthcare systems. Many Sloan faculty members and their students, who have experience as clinicians, in the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries and healthcare consulting, are dedicated to addressing today’s healthcare challenges.  This effort is directed by Retsef Levi, Joseph Doyle, and Janet Wilkinson.

  • Innovative Curriculum

Improving health care management requires strong, visionary leadership. The MIT Sloan Healthcare Certificate prepares students to lead the industry upon graduation with a rigorous combination of specialized coursework and action learning projects.

    Action Learning in Health Care

Healthcare Lab (H-Lab) and GlobalHealth Lab put students on the front lines of health care delivery. In the classroom and on site at hospitals, clinics, and health technology organizations, students work on solutions to complex health systems challenges in the U.S. and around the world.

MIT Innovations in Health Care Conference

MIT Sloan brings together industry and academic leaders to delve deeply into the global challenge of health care. The inaugural 2013 event, attended by more than 400 thought leaders, explored transformational care delivery and effective management models. Videos from the conference are available by following the link below.

    Increasing Primary Care Capacity

Professor Retsef Levi and his students are collaborating to improve healthcare efficiency by using a multiple-perspective, systems approach to field research at a primary care practice in a local teaching hospital that cares for 31,000 patients with about 200 clinical and administrative staff.
