International Faculty Fellows
The International Faculty Fellows (IFF) program invites faculty from MIT Sloan’s international partner institutions and other collaborating schools to MIT Sloan for a semester of teaching and research development.
Each semester between 10-15 IFFs meet regularly with a designated MIT Sloan professor to assess and work toward their professional goals. Depending on those goals, IFFs may participate in any of the following activities:
- Teaching and curriculum development – attend MIT Sloan classes in subjects they currently teach or plan to teach to experience how those subjects are taught and get fresh ideas for their own course curricula and approaches to instruction. Most IFFs also attend teaching workshops.
- Research endeavors – work on their personal research projects and consult with MIT Sloan faculty and staff about their findings and plans for further investigation.
- Seminars and conferences – attend academic group seminars, conferences, and other events related to their subject areas to gain new perspectives, share their own insights, and expand their professional network.
- Social, cultural, and recreational events – IFFs have ample opportunities to socialize with their IFF peers and other members of the MIT community, both on and off campus. The Cambridge and Boston areas also boast a wealth of cultural and recreational activities—from museums and historical landmarks to world-class music, theater, and sports. Many IFFs bring their families to explore the local culture together.
The IFF program was launched in 1996 and has trained more than 300 international faculty members to date. Current IFFs are mainly from MIT Sloan’s partner programs in China, Portugal, Turkey, and Brazil. Past IFFs have come from schools in South Korea, Mexico, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, and Vietnam.

“A main benefit here was the teaching seminars. I found mistakes in my teaching that I am trying to correct. We learned a lot about how to control our breathing, move around the room, look at different people when you ask questions, how to position answers. You get to see yourself in a different light. I don’t think you can learn this sort of thing online.”
