MIT Sloan community mourns the passing of Alex d'Arbeloff, ’49

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 9, 2008 — Alex d'Arbeloff ’49, Professor of Practice MIT Sloan School of Management and Mechanical Engineering; Honorary Chairman of the MIT Corporation, passed away on July 8, 2008. His wife, Brit d'Arbeloff SM ’61, and family were close by his side.

d'Arbeloff was well known across the Institute for his years of service, teaching, mentorship, and leadership. He will be greatly missed, but his contributions and legacy will long be remembered.

“Alex was a member of the MIT Sloan family, serving not only as a senior lecturer, but as a loyal friend and supporter of the School,” said David Schmittlein, John C Head III Dean. “His volunteer activities were many including, most recently, his service on the MIT Sloan Dean's Search Committee. We all benefited greatly from his time, spirit, wisdom, and generosity. He was a remarkable figure, and we will miss him. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family.”
