Why It Matters

Every two years Thinkers50 recognizes the people developing new and insightful management ideas. Here are four working on the MIT campus.

Four members of the MIT Sloan community were honored Nov. 13 at the biennial Thinkers50 awards in London. Thinkers50 recognizes global leaders in management thinking through its ranked list of the 50 top business thinkers, ten individual awards, and inductees into the Thinkers50 Hall of Fame.

Here are those from MIT Sloan who were recognized this year:

Douglas Ready was inducted into the Thinkers50 Hall of Fame. Ready is a senior lecturer at MIT Sloan and the founder and CEO of the International Consortium for Executive Development Research. He has published many articles at MIT Sloan Management Review and Harvard Business Review, most recently “How to become a game-changing leader.” He also teaches the MIT Sloan Executive Education course “Building Game-Changing Organizations: Aligning Purpose, Performance, and People.”

Hal Gregersen won the Leadership Award, which recognizes those who “shed powerful and original new light onto” the role of the leaders in teams and organizations. He was also named to the 24th spot in the Thinkers50 rankings. Gregersen is the executive director of the MIT Leadership Center and a senior lecturer at MIT Sloan. He is the co-author of the 2011 book “The Innovator’s DNA: Mastering the Five Skills of Disruptive Innovators.”

Erik Brynjolfsson, PhD ’91, and Andrew McAfee, SB ’88, SB ’89, LFM ’90, shared the 12th spot in the Thinkers50 rankings. They are co-authors of several books, the most recent of which is “Machine, Platform, Crowd: Harnessing our Digital Future” (excerpted here). Brynjolfsson is a professor at MIT Sloan and the director of the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy. McAfee is a principal research scientist at MIT Sloan and the co-director of the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy.
