MIT Sloan associate professors Sinan Aral and Catherine Tucker were named to the Poets & Quants “40 Under 40” list of best business school professors this week.
Aral, who earned a PhD at MIT Sloan in 2007 and joined the faculty in 2013, is an associate professor in the School’s information technology and marketing groups. He leads the Social Analytics and Large Scale Experimentation research programs at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy.
“This sounds a little silly, but it’s the way Sinan can command a classroom that makes him so effective at transmitting his message in a given class,” a former student of Aral’s at New York University’s Stern School of Business told Poets & Quants.
Aral’s recent work included a paper in Science showing how people are influenced by the opinions others express online.

Tucker is an associate professor in the School’s marketing group. In its profile of her, Poets & Quants cited her consistent high marks from students.
“Prof. Tucker’s simple, effective examples and witty sense of humor keep her oversubscribed classes engaged throughout her lectures,” Harvey Xiao, MBA ’14, told Poets & Quants.
Tucker’s recent work includes a look at the challenges of using social media for marketing purposes and an examination of malpractice litigation’s effect on electronic medical records adoption.
