    In China, food safety regulatory organizations rely on random sampling for food safety tests. Our self-constructed Food Tests database provides valuable information on the results of such tests. Using this data, we are developing a framework for risk-based testing, which uses historical data to identify risky products, companies, and supply chain locations.

    In order to determine the relationship between food safety and local regulatory strength in China, our researchers have mapped the regulatory organizational structures in China to develop transparency indicators for each prefecture.

    Wholesale food markets (WSMs) in China are a major consolidation point for 70%-80% of food products. Therefore, they provide opportunities to access and monitor the quality and safety of food to mitigate food and zoonotic disease risks. Our goal is to enhance WSMs’ roles in monitoring and regulating food safety.
