  • MIT Innovation Ecosystem Symposium

    October 12-13, 2017

The MIT iEcosystem Symposium will bring a global community of practitioners from industry, risk capital, startups, academia, and government, together with thought leaders and scholars to explore the implementation of novel models, programs, and initiatives that enhance economic growth and social progress in innovation ecosystems.

Jointly hosted by the MIT Innovation Initiative, MIT Lab for Innovation Science and Policy, and MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program, the goal of the symposium is to learn from both successes and failures and to maximize collective impact in research and practice, exploring “what’s best” today and “what’s next” on the frontier. The overarching emphasis will be on the models, programs, and initiatives that develop, drive, and inform innovation ecosystems and the roles multi-stakeholder leadership plays in advancing them both individually and collectively.

    • Immersed in the Ecosystem. Home to MIT labs, makerspaces, and industry alike, the symposium will be held in the heart of Tech Square, an innovation ecosystem it aims to foster.
    • Broad Base of Inputs. Through a call for concepts soliciting novels models from around the world, the symposium tracks will be defined by the submissions received and will draw from them to coalesce and disseminate best practices and new ideas.
    • Desired Outcomes. The symposium aims to compile a resource regarding the inputs, outputs, and impacts of effective I&E models, programs, and initiatives, making available the top 30 concept papers describing novel, action-oriented programs (including their design, implementation challenges and metrics for evaluation), and identifying concrete, new focus areas for future research.

The time is right to share our learnings, build community, and explore what the future of innovation ecosystem models might look like. For more information and to register, please visit the event site.
  • MIT REAP ANNOUNCES GLOBAL COHORT FROM ECUADOR TO LEBANON

    June 22, 2017

MIT’s Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (REAP) announces the acceptance of its 5th Cohort of international regional teams from Algeria, Ghana, Australia, Ecuador, Lebanon, and others on the heels of the successful graduation of Cohort 3 teams from Saudi Arabia, Israel, Thailand, China, Chile, Norway, Japan, and Wales. As Cohort 3 joins the ranks of MIT REAP Alumni in the MIT Global Innovation Network (GIN), the new set of regional teams, comprised of up to eight team members representing government, risk capital, academia, corporate and the entrepreneurial community, are entering a two-year learning engagement with MIT.

“It’s very important for all five of these stakeholder groups to be represented throughout the program to create a shared vision for the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem,” says MIT REAP Executive Director, Sarah Jane Maxted.

Through the program, teams will learn and adapt the frameworks developed by MIT to accelerate Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship (IDE) in their region. The teams will be working from July until September 2017 to formalize the roles of each team member, analyze the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, and determine some of the team’s high-level goals for the two-year program.

  • MIT-China Management Education Project Celebrates 20th Anniversary

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 8, 2015 – The MIT Sloan School of Management is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the MIT-China Management Education Project. The project began in 1996 to provide opportunities for MIT faculty, staff, and students to learn about China and to support the development of graduate management education in China. The project has significantly grown over the years, but faculty development and curriculum design have remained priorities. MIT Sloan's partners in this project include Fudan University, Lingnan (University) College at Sun Yat-sen University, Tsinghua University, and Yunnan University.

An anniversary celebration will be held Oct. 15 in Hong Kong with a dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel with the deans of the participating schools and key supporters of the project, including MIT alumnus Chi-Won Yoon, chair of AEB, and MIT alumnus Dr. Philip Kwok, former CEO of the Wing On Group.

MIT Sloan Dean David Schmittlein says, “We believe deeply in the importance of management education, and the MIT-China Management Education Project is a hallmark of that belief. As we go forward, we hope to explore new avenues of impact in China, on China-U.S. relationships, and on China’s continuing growth as a leader in the world.”
