Information Technologies (IT) includes a range of computer software and hardware systems as well as networking and telecommunications systems. PhD program participants are expected to acquire a solid grasp of underlying computer technologies, along with their organizational and economic implications. They will learn how to research managers' evolving information needs and evaluate computer-based information systems.
IT is inherently multi-disciplinary. Study in this area utilizes faculty with backgrounds in management science, computer science, organizational behavior, psychology, and economics. Numerous research centers within the School and across MIT provide students with the opportunities and funds to conduct innovative IT research in a wide variety of areas.
