Requirements

A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) is required for all applicants. Undergraduate preparation should include mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics. Applicants to the Financial Economics concentration should have mastered intermediate level microeconomics and macroeconomics.

All applicants — including those from the United States and those with advanced degrees — must take either the GMAT or GRE (General Test only) and have the official test results reported directly to MIT Sloan's PhD Program (GMAT code X5X-QS-21; GRE code 3510-4201). Test scores must be from within the past five years. If your scores are due to expire close to the admissions deadline, please have them forwarded to our program before they expire, even if you have not yet completed your application.

Those applying to Operations Management should submit GRE scores only. Only official copies are considered; photocopies or faxes are not acceptable and should not be submitted. Registration information for the GMAT and GRE may be obtained at www.mba.com and www.ets.org respectively.

Either TOEFL or IELTS is required of all non-native English speakers, and official test results must be sent to MIT Sloan (TOEFL code 3514-02). Test scores must be from within the past two years. MIT requires a minimum score of 577 for the paper testing and 233 for the computer-based method, or 90-91 for the IBT. Registration information for TOEFL and IELTS may be obtained at www.toefl.org and www.ielts.org respectively. You are waived from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement only if you have received your undergraduate degree from a four-year accredited school within the United States. Please do not contact the PhD Program regarding waivers, as none will be discussed until such time as the faculty expresses an interest in your application.
