The DC Solar Pump India Lab team is about to embark for two weeks in India!

Our objective: To investigate how we can turn a solar water pump (invented by MIT engineers) into a scalable business in rural India. The pump uses two solar panels, a motorcycle battery, and a custom-designed pump to efficiently irrigate .75-1 acre plots of land.

The solar powered water pump, designed to irrigate fields in rural Eastern India.

Our plan: Meet with and learn from business leaders, financiers, non-profits, entrepreneurs, and farmers. Gather data on costs and opportunities. Combine on-the-ground insights with our secondary research and build a viable financing model for the solar pump. Oh yeah, we also need to help name the pump. Ideas welcome!
