15: Management Science MIT Class of 2017 and 2018 students have a choice in pursuing a degree in Management Science or one of the new degree options of Management, Business Analytics, or Finance. Class of 2017 and 2018 can also pursue the minor in management science or management or one of the new minor options of business analytics or finance (see chart comparing the major and minor options). Management science focuses on the design and administration of complex systems, and it is used to investigate a wide range of strategic and logistical problems. Management science provides a systematic approach to such problems using quantitative tools and qualitative methods that assess the human and social dimensions of these issues. Management science techniques account for real world complications and constraints in an effort to provide sound, viable solutions to managerial problems. The result is often a substantial savings of time, money, and resources. The Undergraduate Education Office encourages current MIT students to drop into our office or make an appointment to review the different curricula options.
