Teams and Cohorts
During the first or “Core” semester, students are divided into six cohorts, or “oceans” (that is, Atlantic, Baltic, Caribbean, Indian, Mediterranean, and Pacific), of 68 students in each. This structure shapes the Core curriculum by providing a collaborative environment, as the individuals in these groups take all of their first-semester courses together, sharing experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Within each cohort, each student is assigned to a subgroup of six or seven people who work together throughout the first semester on assignments, collaborate on projects, and study for exams. Teammates come from many different disciplines and cultures, paralleling the diversity of the modern workplace.
