Master of Finance

Events and Competitions

MIT Sloan is committed to providing activities and events that ensure a welcoming environment for every member of our community, and we are proud to support a range of organizations that bring together students with shared passions and backgrounds. Our clubs and groups offer networking events, competitions, and school-wide social gatherings known as C-Functions that promote a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Master of Finance Speaker Series:
Through the Master of Finance Speaker Series, the Master of Finance Program welcomes industry leaders to campus to share their insight and experience with the MIT Sloan Community. These lunchtime sessions occur throughout the fall and spring semesters, and host financial professionals from large, brand-name institutions as well as smaller, start-up hedge funds and consultancies. The series allows students the opportunity to network with professionals and learn more about the industry.

Student Treks:
Treks are informal, student-organized trips that can be career-oriented, exploring an industry sector in another part of the world, or just for fun, bringing friends together to travel. Annual treks include trips such as a tech trek to Silicon Valley, a health care trek around Boston, and the popular ski trek to Colorado.

Competitions, Speakers, Networking:
Student clubs run competitions, such as the long-running MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition, and bring in seasoned executives to conduct skills sessions and resume reviews, as well as informal lunch talks and broad networking sessions. In addition to a range of business and professional clubs, there are groups for different regions, sports, and other interests.

MFin Alumni Perspective Series:
This program welcomes MFin alums to connect with our current students. These alums provide valuable insights on a range of topics from their time at Sloan to industry outlook and career advice. We encourage students to participate in these events as it will provide them with direct access to those who have been through the MFin program and have succeeded in their professional pursuits.

Study Tour:
The Master of Finance Asia Study Tour is an opportunity for MFin students to learn more about Asian Capital Markets and to experience the rich cultures of Singapore and Hong Kong. Every spring, after weeks of studying the current Asian financial landscape in the classroom, participants travel to Singapore and Hong Kong. Open to all Master of Finance students, the trip features site visits to prominent firms, hosted by accomplished finance professionals. Students also enjoy a myriad of cultural activities organized by MIT Sloan, as well as some time for individual exploration.
