Mihaela Papa oversees the Asia School of Business (ASB) collaboration, the Innovative Dynamic Education and Action for Sustainability (IDEAS) program, and works on strategy development for global engagements. She joins Global Programs from her role as Assistant Director for International Activities for MIT’s Office of the Provost.
Mihaela is an economist by training with extensive experience in the field of international affairs. She started her career in the economic section of the Croatian Foreign Ministry and moved to Boston to complete an MA in law and diplomacy and a PhD in international relations at the Fletcher School, Tufts University. As a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, Mihaela was responsible for launching and managing the Harvard Law School’s major international project on the globalization of the legal profession in China, India, and Brazil. She did field research in India and lived six months in Shanghai to conduct research at Fudan University on China’s global engagement and its alliances with other rising powers (BRICS).
She has also served as a faculty member teaching international negotiations, sustainable development, and rising powers at Tufts and Brandeis, and has worked as a consultant and project evaluator for a range of clients including the U.S. government, the European Commission, and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. Mihaela has advised U.S. and Asian universities on developing new international initiatives, published peer-reviewed research articles in Global Environmental Politics, Global Environmental Change, and other journals. She has given talks at many universities around the world
