Senior Lecturer, Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management
Andrew Wolk is a Senior Lecturer in Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Wolk launched Root Cause, an Action Tank for the Social Sector, by developing and promoting entrepreneurial social-sector leadership. He has been conducting workshops and consulting on curriculum development at major universities across the country. Wolk’s Social Entrepreneurship course is a semester-long project that involves writing a social venture business plan to explore such topics as private/public partnerships, earned income, corporate social responsibility, cause-related marketing, venture philanthropy, and social capital markets. He developed the course at Boston University (BU), where it became the required capstone of the BU Public/Non-Profit Management MBA program.
As a private-sector entrepreneur, Wolk started, built, and sold a business in the 1990s. He is one of the directors of a business economic development initiative at BU’s Entrepreneurial Management Institute. He brought his course to the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, and the Heller School of Social Policy at Brandeis University. Recently, Wolk served on the Advisory Board of Fast Company Magazine’s special “Social Capitalist” issue as well as a reader for Echoing Green. In 2001, Wolk completed a research study entitled, “The Boston Nonprofit Sectors Quest for Organizational Effectiveness.” He assisted in starting a Social Venture Partners chapter in Boston and now serves on the board both locally and nationally. Wolk also serves on the board of the Social Enterprise Alliance and was the program co-chair for the 4th National Gathering for Social Entrepreneurs. He has been a speaker at the National Gathering for Social Entrepreneurs, Vermont for Business Responsibility, Harvard Social Exchange, Starting Bloc, and More Than Money Conferences.
Wolk holds a BA from Lehigh University and an MBA in entrepreneurship and nonprofit management from Boston University.
