Ops Lab has limited class time, which focuses on project management, methods, team report-outs and discussion. The course has three types of problem settings:
One setting is small to medium local area companies in the Boston area. These typically include manufacturing companies, service organizations such as hospitals, and non-profits. For these projects teams of 2-4 students visit the site multiple times throughout the term.
A second setting is businesses with operations in the domestic US outside the greater Boston area, or anywhere in the world except Asia Pacific. For these projects teams of 3-5 students visit the site during SIP week.
The final setting is businesses with operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Teams of three students from MIT’s LGO program and three students from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University China Leaders for Global Operations program (CLGO) visit the site during SIP week.
The assignment of these projects may give preference to students (e.g. LGO or MBA students) who are involved in sourcing these projects.
