GCFP hosts second round of Mission & Metrics: Finance Training for Federal Credit Program Professionals

By

On December 12-13, the Golub Center for Finance and Policy held a second iteration of the course Mission & Metrics: Finance Training for Federal Credit Program Professionals. The training attracted participants from a variety of U.S. agencies engaged in governmental lending activities, including:

  • Department of Agriculture
  • Department of Education
  • Department of Energy
  • Department of Housing & Urban Development
  • Department of the Treasury
  • Congressional Budget Office

The U.S. government’s large and growing loan portfolio – which has tripled in size since 2008 – highlights the need for program managers to have a deeper understanding of the financial principles at play in running what has become the world’s largest financial institution. The course – taught by Deborah Lucas, Doug Criscitello, Charles Tansey, and Roman Iwachiw – is designed to enhance understanding on a range of topics necessary to design and operate government credit programs efficiently.

The program was made possible by a generous gift of Mary and Warren Naphtal to the GCFP Naphtal Education Initiative Fund. In addition, the IBM Center for The Business of Government served as host for the event and generously contributed its facilities and staff to make the event successful.

Slides, spreadsheets, and assignments are available for download on the course resources page.
