Career activities are happening everywhere at MIT Sloan. Your CDO is a collaborative hub for MIT Sloan’s career activities and expertise, on campus and worldwide. By connecting you with career advice, events, clubs, resources, and job postings, customized by your program and career interests, Your CDO brings career activity together in one place. Through Your CDO, you will have access to top company databases and a vast collection of industry guides, AI resume and LinkedIn profile tools, interview preparation tools, and targeted career resources just for MFin students.

Your dedicated MFin career advising team is focused solely on students in the MFin program, and curates an educational experience to help you succeed in the market. In the CDO, we believe that you are the CEO of your career, and our goal is to help you understand how your unique talents can guide you in leaving your unique fingerprint on the future of finance.

You can participate in small-group career skill sessions and one-on-one personalized advising sessions to guide you in strengthening career skills, identifying and building upon areas of strength, and creating and implementing a successful career strategy. Whether you seek support in resume writing, networking strategies, interviewing confidently, or negotiating offers, your career advisor partners with you throughout your career journey to provide support and guidance.

Before the MFin Program begins, as an incoming MFin student, you’ll receive access to Career Foundations, a self-paced online career course that is designed to prepare you for your career journey at MIT Sloan. Through Career Foundations, you will explore career paths, learn about recruiting timelines, and be guided through action items to complete based on your career interests and goals.

You will also receive career advising support before the start of the program, including virtual drop-in advising hours, one-on-one advising, and personalized resume feedback. These early advising opportunities, coupled with Career Foundations, provide you with a head start on your career development process and upcoming job search as an MFin.

During the Summer Term, you will participate in Career Core, a career course created specifically for MFin students to help you accelerate your career readiness and prepare you to recruit in a competitive market. In Career Core, you will learn directly from and network with alumni, industry professionals, and recruiters. Career Core is designed to help you reduce common friction points in the job search and gain early momentum so you can optimize your options and pursue your career goals with more ease. 

Career programming continues throughout the MFin Program to support your ongoing development of career skills and to help you maximize your career success. Our programming content covers important topics including, but not limited to, writing resumes and cover letters, networking tactics and strategies, leveraging LinkedIn, interviewing with confidence, evaluating and negotiating offers, and recruiting processes. 

The CDO curates recruiting and networking events spanning industry, function, and geography that provide an excellent opportunity for you to connect with employers. Leveraging connections across MIT to broaden relationships, MIT Sloan attracts a range of well-known companies, allowing you to explore numerous career opportunities in asset management, investment banking, corporate finance, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, big data, and analytics, fintech, and management consulting. 

Our annual MFin Networking Night is exclusive to MFins and an opportunity to meet companies that attend specifically to get to know you! As MIT’s largest career fair, the MIT Career Fair held each Fall is a valuable opportunity to network with hundreds of companies. Complementary, the MIT Sloan Spring Career Fair highlights new and fast-growing companies that are seeking to fill new opportunities. Through company presentations, office hours/coffee chats, industry events, collaborations with clubs, and networking events, you will have the chance to explore opportunities you may not have considered before. 

The CDO builds relationships with employers, shares insights on company recruiting processes, culture, and DEI values, and communicates real-time updates and market trends with you. As an MFin student, you have access to both the MIT Sloan CDO and MIT Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD) for job postings, company events, and interview opportunities. 

MFins are successful in the job market. In 2023, 100% of MFins seeking employment received an offer within six months of graduation, and 97% of MFins seeking summer internships accepted an offer. The majority of MFin graduates accepted full-time roles in Quantitative Research/Data Science (24%), IBD/Transactions Advisory (19%), Quantitative Trading - Research/Sales (14%), Management/Strategy Consulting (11%), Portfolio Management (5%), and Corporate Finance (5%).

Recent MFin graduates have accepted offers from well-known companies, including Balyasny Asset Management, Barclays, BlackRock, Citadel, Citi, EY-Parthenon, Goldman Sachs, Jump Trading, McKinsey & Company, Morgan Stanley, PIMCO, PJT Partners, Quantbot Technologies, Qube Research & Technologies, and UBS. MIT Sloan student clubs organize many activities that bring students together with corporate leaders. These activities range from single-day events, such as visits from guest speakers, to more involved trips to companies’ headquarters to meet with executives. Clubs are a great way to learn more about industry interests and network with the greater MIT Sloan Community. MFin students tend to be most involved in the Investment Banking Club, the Investment Management Club, the Quantitative Financial Markets Club, and the Venture Capital and Private Equity Club.

As an MFin student, you will be supported by a strong alumni community that has built a tradition of helping current students with career planning, networking, and job search activities. Get advice, insight, and help with preparing for interviews from alumni through the MIT Alumni Advisors Hub. With over 1,000 MFin alumni, 24,000 MIT Sloan alumni, and 136,000 MIT alumni, the MIT Sloan alumni network is a valuable lifelong resource for both students and graduates.

The CDO offers lifelong career support for MIT Sloan alumni, including resources, coaching, and events on key career topics, such as career management, transitions, search strategy, marketing collateral, interview preparation, negotiations, and post-landing success.
