Lee Novy
LTC Lee Novy is a native of Gardiner, Maine. He enrolled in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in 1996 at Bentley College in Waltham, MA. In 2000, Lee commissioned as an Armor officer.
In 2001, Lee was assigned to 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea. In 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, at Camp Garryowen, Lee served as an M1A1 Tank Platoon Leader (B Troop) and Squadron Assistant S3. In 2002, he was reassigned to Fort Drum, NY, where he served as a Troop Executive Officer and Squadron personnel officer (S-1) in 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry. While assigned to 3-17 Cavalry, LTC Novy deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREDDOM.
In 2006, Lee joined 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and served as a Special Forces Operational Detachment-A (ODA) Commander in both A then B Company, 2nd Battalion. While assigned to 2nd Battalion he served in support of both Operation ENDURING FREEDOM XI and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM/NEW DAWN.
Following graduation from the Naval Post-graduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA, Lee returned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in 2013 to command B Company, 3rd Battalion during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) XX. He then served as Battalion Operations Officer (S-3) as the same unit trained and deployed to Afghanistan to serve as Special Operations Task Force - A (SOTF-A) for OEF XXIII / Operation RESOLUTE SUPPORT I (ORS). Lee’s final assignment in 3rd SFG(A) was command of the Advanced Skills Company.
In 2016, LTC Novy joined 1st Special Forces Command (SFC)(A) where he served as the Secretary of the General Staff (SGS) for one year then deployed to Iraq as the Chief of Staff for Special Operations Joint Task Force-Operation INHERENT RESOLVE (OIR), SOJTF-OIR-Iraq.
From 2017 to 2020, LTC Novy served in various roles in 1st SFC(A) including Readiness Division Chief and Director of Commander’s Action Group (CAG). In May 2020, LTC Novy embarked on his last operational deployment as the Director of Operations for Special Operations Joint Task Force – Afghanistan (SOJTF-A) until July 2021.
Lee and Stephanie have been married 22 years and have three sons Hunter, Marcus, and Brandon.
