Miriam Pozen Prize Award Ceremony and Lecture by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Dec 9

The MIT GCFP has announced that Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, was named the winner of the 2025 Miriam Pozen Prize in recognition of his leadership in international financial policy. (Click here to read the official press release.) President Tharman, an economist, longtime public servant, and politician, has served as President of the Republic of Singapore since 2023. President Tharman was in politics for over two decades, serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister over several years, and as Education Minister earlier. He also served as Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore’s central bank and financial regulator over more than a decade. Internationally, he has led several high-level councils focused on global financial reforms, and preparedness for future pandemics, among other global challenges. He previously led the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) and chaired a G20 Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on Global Financial Governance. President Tharman currently chairs the board of the Group of Thirty, an independent global council of economic and financial leaders from the public and private sectors. 

The award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 12:00pm on the 6th floor of the MIT Samberg Conference Center, during which President Tharman will deliver the Miriam Pozen Lecture. There will be an informal reception prior to the event at 11:30am.

This hybrid event is free and open to the public and will be livestreamed. Registration is required to attend the event in person.

About the Award
The Miriam Pozen Prize recognizes outstanding research or practice in financial policy by an academic or practitioner. It is awarded under the aegis of the MIT Golub Center for Finance and Policy (GCFP) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Awarded biennially, the prize supports the improved evaluation and management of government financial institutions, regulation of financial markets and institutions, and measurement and management of risk. 

In establishing the Miriam Pozen Prize, the GCFP hopes to contribute to the improved evaluation and management of government financial institutions, regulation of financial markets and institutions and measurement and management of risk.
