Hackathon 2025
Leveraging agentic AI in edtech venture for corporates
MIT Sloan 2025 Hackathon
This year's Hackathon focused on how agentic AI can be used in edtech and health care.
The US is experiencing a significant labor shortage. In December 2023, there were 2.76 million more job openings than unemployed people. This situation has been ongoing since May 2021, with job openings consistently outnumbering unemployed individuals. The healthcare and social assistance industry, professional and business services, and real estate are among the sectors most affected.
In today's rapidly evolving corporate landscape, continuous learning and development are crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. There is a need to educate people faster and ongoing on the job. Corporations across industries need to think of changing their education strategies to improve and extend the skill set of their employees across all experience levels in order to continue to thrive, innovate and adhere to current and future regulations.
Edtech providers and solutions have become integral in facilitating this ongoing education. The advent of agentic AI presents an opportunity for edtech ventures to capitalize on this capability as part of their offerings in corporate environments. By leveraging agentic AI, edtech ventures can create more personalized, efficient, and adaptive learning experiences for employees, ultimately driving innovation and productivity.

Business challenge
The Hackathon 2025 students were tasked with developing an innovative business model integrating agentic AI into an edtech venture for corporate environments. They needed to consider how agentic AI can enhance personalized learning, streamline training processes, and provide real-time feedback and support employees for reskilling and upskilling in healthcare and/or technology industries.
The student teams' proposed business models addressed the following:
- Effectiveness
- Personalization: How can agentic AI tailor learning experiences to individual employee needs of all experience levels and preferences?
- Engagement: How can agentic AI make learning more interactive and engaging for employees of all age groups?
- Efficiency: In what ways can agentic AI optimize the delivery and management of training programs?
- Risks: Shifting and/or augmenting training with agentic AI also poses certain risks, be it for trainer and trainee (job loss or reduction of trainers, deep surveillance of the trainees and their ongoing performance, to name just a few); please discuss potential risks and social impact of your solution vs. the benefits in effectiveness and efficiency.
