About the Information Technology Group
The MIT Sloan Information Technology group addresses some of the most critical technological challenges and opportunities of our time, from generative AI to the future of work and the design of ethical digital systems.
Our group’s strength lies in its multidisciplinary foundation, integrating perspectives from economics, computer science, sociology, psychology, and organization science. This allows us to investigate the social and economic implications of technology at every level—for individuals, groups, organizations, and society as a whole. Situated in the world’s leading institute of technology, we are uniquely positioned to explore these complex issues.
Our faculty and students are at the forefront of today's most vital research topics, including artificial intelligence, privacy and ethics, human-computer interaction, and the future of work. We work in close partnership with industry, non-profits, and a network of influential research centers—including the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy (IDE), Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan (CAMS), MIT Center for Information Systems Research (CISR), and the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence (CCI)—to ensure our work has a tangible impact.
For nearly half a century, our group has been consistently ranked as offering one of the best IT doctoral programs in the world. The program attracts some of the most gifted students in the field, and is small and highly selective by design. Our graduates proceed to distinguished research careers at the world’s leading institutions.
