Disaster Management Conference (June 30, 2025)
In June 2025, the MIT Sloan ASEAN Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Bangkok and the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Thailand, hosted the Disaster Management Conference: Building a More Resilient ASEAN through Technology, Innovation and Design. The conference examined disaster preparedness and response in the face of climate change and rapid urbanization. Keynote presentations highlighted approaches ranging from risk reduction through urban design, to emerging research for AI in climate modeling, to Bangkok’s own disaster management practices.
Industry experts from sectors including infrastructure, manufacturing, and technology joined panel discussions on how to improve preparedness across the Southeast Asia region. An accompanying Innovation and Technology Showcase featured practical applications from AI-based risk planning to urban disaster management tools. By bringing together policy, research, and industry, the conference created a platform for collaboration to advance resilience across Southeast Asia.
MSAO Longevity Conference
Longevity Conference (Oct 31 - Nov 1, 2024)
In October 2024, the MIT Sloan Global Programs hosted Beyond Years: The Future of Longevity in Bangkok, Thailand, a two-day conference that gathered MIT faculty, researchers, policymakers, healthcare practitioners, and business leaders to examine the challenges and opportunities of aging societies in Southeast Asia. The conference explored longevity through three broad themes: Imagining Wellbeing for Longevity, Designing the Context for Longevity, and Financing Longevity.
These themes were addressed through a combination of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and breakout sessions covering healthcare, urban planning, and public policy. By bringing together experts from diverse sectors, Beyond Years: The Future of Longevity created a unique forum for cross-sector dialogue and collaboration, highlighting strategies for Southeast Asian societies to navigate demographic transformation with resilience, innovation, and inclusive growth.
