The 12-month MIT Sloan Fellows MBA program at the MIT Sloan School of Management offers an immersive, rigorous curriculum that helps experienced leaders put ideas into action. What Degree Options Are Available Through the MIT Sloan Fellows MBA Program?

The program offers an MBA and two thesis-based Master of Science degree options.

MIT Sloan MBA

Most students earn an MBA through the program’s rigorous and customizable management curriculum.
Thesis-Based Master of Science Degrees

Students who complete a thesis, individually or with a co-author, may earn a Master of Science (SM) in Management or a Master of Science (SM) in Management of Technology instead of an MBA. The thesis provides an opportunity to conduct research connected to a student’s professional interests and leadership goals.

Students begin with an in-depth 360-degree leadership assessment and a series of executive coaching sessions. The rigorous summer Core establishes a shared foundation in essential management disciplines and prepares students to customize their fall and spring coursework.

Students work in small, carefully assembled groups that reflect the diversity of the cohort. By approaching challenges through different academic, professional, and cultural perspectives, teams learn to combine individual strengths and collaborate more effectively.

Students continue building their management foundation through Financial Management while choosing electives, project-focused courses, and optional certificates. Students pursuing a thesis begin laying the groundwork for their research.

Learning alongside peers from around the world provides insight into business across regions and industries. Students also broaden their perspectives through academic and extracurricular experiences with other MIT Sloan programs and the wider MIT community.

January at MIT is Independent Activities Period, a community-wide celebration of knowledge offering 700+ learning experiences. Choose from a selection of Executive Electives or a vast array of short courses in everything from coding to the visual arts—or decide to travel abroad for project-focused research and courses.

*Executive Electives are offered exclusively to MIT Sloan Fellows MBA and Executive MBA students and alumni.

Students complete System Dynamics and choose electives at MIT Sloan and across MIT to align the curriculum with their leadership and career goals. They may also collaborate with MIT research centers, industry organizations, and entrepreneurial incubators on applied projects.

As the program concludes, students consider how to translate their learning and position themselves for their next leadership opportunity.
