Quote:

“There’s so much great work being done at MIT around climate…. The MIT Climate Policy Center plays a critical role as the connective tissue of Institute-wide efforts to turn climate-related research into evidence-based public policy in the U.S. and globally.”

Selected Recent Research:

• Flexible Data Centers and the Grid: Lower Costs, Higher Emissions?” (National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) working paper, July 2025)

• Critical Minerals for a Just Energy Transition” (Annual Review of Resource Economics, July 2025)

Fun Fact:

Knittel’s interest in transportation runs deep. His father was an engineer at the truck manufacturer Peterbilt, and as a teen, Knittel rebuilt the engine of his ’68 Ford Mustang to boost its horsepower. “I’ve always been a car guy,” Knittel has said. “It’s kind of in my blood.”
