Expert career guidance is a hallmark of the MFin experience, and it begins before you even enter the program. Your MFin Career Advisors design an educational experience that supports your success in the job market through a combination of:

• Online and on-campus career courses
• Small-group skill sessions
• Individualized advising sessions

These activities will guide you in:

In addition to creating an extensive program for career preparation, your MFin Career Advisors are a valuable resource throughout your search, offering guidance as you move from resume writing and networking to interviewing and negotiating offers.

Your MFin career journey starts with Career Foundations and Career Core, two courses that will prepare you to advance through the hurdles of a competitive job market.

• Career Foundations: This self-paced pre-matriculation program begins before classes start to prepare you for your MFin career journey. You’ll get a jumpstart on your resume, learn recruiting timelines, and discover career resources. Gaining clarity, building your network, and preparing for interviews takes time; starting early with Career Foundations will set you up to feel prepared for your search.
• Career Core: A series of classes designed to accelerate your career readiness and build a foundation for your journey. You’ll develop a strategic career plan for your job search, learn how to network effectively, and gain valuable insights to succeed in recruiting. The highly interactive classes led by the MFin Career Advisors feature MFin alumni, industry professionals, and recruiters.

As an MFin student, you have access to both the MIT Sloan CDO and MIT Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD) for job postings, company events, and interview opportunities.

MIT Sloan has strong connections with the world’s leading companies and actively develops relationships in emerging industries. CDO’s robust network in finance will help you explore numerous career opportunities, including asset management, investment banking, corporate finance, hedge funds, private equity, and venture capital, as well as related careers in fields such as big data and analytics, fintech, and management consulting. Career Central, MIT Sloan’s recruiting platform, is your hub for discovering companies and career paths you may not have considered. As a student, you’ll sign up for activities like:

• Company presentations: Learn about companies, typical career paths, and upcoming opportunities
• Office hours and Coffee Chats: Meet company representatives in small student groups to ask more specific questions and share your background

And you won’t want to miss these Signature Events to meet multiple companies at once!

• MFin Networking Night (September): An early fall networking event with an exceptional group of companies who are visiting campus just to meet MFins.
• Industry Spotlight Series: Springtime industry networking events where you’ll meet growing companies with just-in-time opportunities.
• MIT Sloan Career Fair (April): Springtime event to connect students with companies hiring for just-in-time job and internship opportunities.

Across campus, CAPD also offers major recruiting and networking opportunities. The season begins each September with the MIT Career Fair, the largest career fair at MIT and a chance to meet hundreds of employers. CAPD hosts additional company‑specific events throughout the fall, often featuring analyst‑level roles that appeal to MFins. The MIT community also organizes targeted industry and regional career fairs throughout the year.

• Your CDO (cdo.mit.edu): Your resource for industry- and program-specific career information. You’ll find industry recruiting guides, AI tools for your resume and LinkedIn profile, and curated resources to streamline research, networking, and interview preparation. Blogs from your peer career mentors share real-time insights into the job search. Note: Select content is available to visitors without logging in.
• Career Central: MIT Sloan’s recruiting management system and job board, where you can apply for full-time job and internship opportunities, register for recruiting events and activities, and search our database of companies for contacts. Note: Career Central is available once you have an MIT email address.
• Handshake: MIT’s career management system and job board.
