About
Professor Dionysios Demetis is a Full Professor at Hull University Business School in the UK and a Research Affiliate at CAMS (Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan).
He holds an MSc and a PhD from the London School of Economics (UK) in information systems. His undergraduate degree is in physics from the University of Crete (Greece). While at the London School of Economics, his research concentrated on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) technologies in the banking sector and transaction monitoring systems. At the same time, he taught on Information Systems Management, Information Systems Security, and Research Methods. As a member of the LSE’s Computer Security Research Center, he focused on several security domains as part of EU-funded research projects on identity and security in the information society, conducting research on biometrics, digital identity, cyber-enabled fraud, and money laundering.
His research on cybercrime has received the Best Paper Award from the CABS 4*-listed Journal of the Association for Information Systems, as well as the Senior Scholars Best Publication Award from the Association for Information Systems. He is the author of three books and numerous journal articles. In addition, he is a member of the UNESCO Chair on Threats to Cultural Heritage that also explores cyber risks for museums and other cultural institutions. He serves as co-chair of the Annual Security Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada (now in its 26th year), and is also the current Academic Lead for the UK’s nationwide community of multi-disciplinary academics addressing the UK’s national security and resilience needs (NSEC: Network for Security Excellence and Collaboration). He organizes workshops at Cambridge University’s Annual Symposium on Economic Crime, serving as a senior editor for the Journal of Information Systems Security, and is a track chair for Cybersecurity & Privacy for the upcoming International Conference of Information Systems in Lisbon.
