• Thinking Like a Lawyer: Tips from a Wall Street Lawyer

  As MIT alumni, we are experts in so many fields. We have our heads down, working on the toughest problems and challenges in the world. And yet, we may not be as comfortable with the nuances of legal profession, or even give it thought, until a problem surfaces. This workshop will present “The Law, Simplified.” In part one, we’ll cover topics like how to: 

  • hire and work with the right lawyers;
  • ask the best questions to maximize your legal protection;
  • assess legal risk and structure your contracts.

  We’ll walk through boiler plate legal language and how to parse and understand contract provisions. We’ll also cover Non Disclosure Agreements and pitfalls to avoid. 
  
  In part two, we’ll look at Employment Law, updates on non-compete laws in the US, and provide an overview of executive agreements: what is happening in the market? What can you realistically ask for? What should you avoid? 
  
  Ultimately this workshop will be a primer to equip you with a basic understanding of legal concepts that can best protect you and your business in the marketplace.

• Unlocking the Innovative and Transformative Power of AI in Healthcare in a Safe and Trustworthy Way

  Learn how to harness the power of AI to improve healthcare access, affordability, equity, and excellence (quality and safety) while safeguarding against the potential risks. This workshop will discuss a framework to help shift the AI frontier highlighting Hartford HealthCare’s approach as a case study: building an ecosystem of multi-stakeholder partners; driving a robust portfolio of research and startup partnerships; implementing a strong governance structure to protect against patient harm and maintaining compliance with the evolving regulatory environment; continuing immersive education across critical functions of the healthcare system; employing a disciplined methodology to integrate, and scale, AI into clinical practice safely; and developing a multimodal data liquidity platform.

• The Enemy Within: Hidden Systems are the Key To Organizational Transformation
  John Carrier, MIT Sloan
  Why is organizational transformation so difficult? In part, it is because an organization is a complex system -- not a single entity. Based on the foundational work of MIT Sloan alumnus Armand Feigenbaum, SM ’48, PhD ’51, we will propose that an organization is actually made up of two types of systems:

  • the rational system, which executes work that falls within the defined strategy, processes, capability, capacity, and culture of the organization
  • the hidden system, which emerges when the rational system is incapable of meeting demands placed upon it in the current operating environment

  In the first half of this workshop, we will examine how Sloan faculty have contributed to this modern understanding, and how the work of luminaries like Kurt Levin (Social Psychology), Jay Forrester (System Dynamics), Ed Schein (Corporate Culture), John Krafcik (Lean Operations) and John Little (Little’s Law) may be used to design and operate resilient and agile organizations.
  
  The second half of this workshop will be a case study based on Digital Transformation with an MIT Sloan LGO protagonist: “Balancing Technology with System Thinking for Superior (and less painful) Organizational Transformation.” This will be a great opportunity to learn together with the MIT Sloan community with a real world example!
