MIT Analytics Capstone

Please email BusinessAnalytics@mit.edu with the following information to submit your initial proposal to host an Analytics Capstone project. We are currently accepting submissions for projects launching in January 2026. The projects run from February to August, in line with our academic year.

The priority submission deadline is October 1, 2025.

  • Company Name: Please indicate the name of your company/organization as well the division/team name if applicable. Please also indicate the geographic location(s) of the project.

  • Are you a current/past Capstone sponsor?
  • Project Description: Please state what the proposed project is expected to accomplish in terms of the business analytics context. Detail the particular issue or problem to be addressed, including the areas of business strategy or operations, challenges encountered in previous efforts to resolve (if any).
  • Data Requirements and Access: Please explain what datasets will be available to the students and how they will be able to access the data. Companies typically work with their IT department to figure out the best way to share information with the students. Some companies provide a company laptop to the students, others let students use their personal laptops. Some companies also provide access to a secure cloud server.
    • *Please note that any PII/PHI must be de-identified for project use. For non-US based companies, we caution you to be extremely careful about sharing Legally Regulated Data*
  • Technical Skills: Please include any technical expectations of the students (i.e. any specific programming languages or software tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, etc.)
  • Contract Options: Are you interested in a single-year contract or a multi-year contract? If undecided, please indicate so.
  • Please include the following acknowledgment: I understand that sponsoring a Capstone project requires a financial commitment, staff mentor, and an NDA and Statement of Work (SOW).
  • Please include the following acknowledgment: I understand that any data provided by my company will be protected by an NDA, but must also be de-identified or anonymized prior to student access.
