Drawing on research from the American Job Quality Study and emerging labor-management models, Kochan explores how states can structure sectoral bargaining frameworks similar to those established for ride service workers in Massachusetts, California, and Illinois to give workers meaningful voice across all phases of AI development and use.
Kochan's analysis draws from his forthcoming book, Roads not Taken: Lessons for Building a New Social Contract at Work (MIT Press, January 2027), which explores how organizations and policymakers can build more equitable approaches to technological change and worker well-being.
