MBAn Curriculum

The 12-month Master of Business Analytics (MBAn) program at the MIT Sloan School of Management combines advanced coursework in machine learning, optimization, and analytics with hands-on experience solving real organizational challenges. Students build technical expertise alongside the communication and management skills needed to turn data into informed decisions. They can also choose from approved analytics electives from the MIT Operations Research Center (ORC) to tailor part of the curriculum to their interests and goals.

How Is the 12-Month MBAn Curriculum Structured?

Master of Business Analytics students complete 111 to 147 units of coursework across the fall, Independent Activities Period (IAP), spring, and summer terms. Required courses build technical and management expertise, while approved analytics and unrestricted electives allow students to tailor parts of the curriculum.

How Does the MIT Sloan Analytics Capstone Work?

The MBAn curriculum includes an Analytics Capstone in which student teams work with sponsor organizations in the United States and abroad to solve real-world data science challenges. From February through May, students work on campus under the guidance of faculty advisors before joining their host organizations full time during the summer.

The Capstone provides a tuition offset of more than $22,000. After completing the experience and submitting a final report and presentation in August, students graduate with their degree.

Research Opportunities Available to MBAn Students

MBAn students may apply for research assistantships with affiliated faculty and senior staff from the MIT Sloan School of Management and the MIT Operations Research Center. These opportunities allow students to explore a range of applications and methods in operations research and analytics.
