Steven Eppinger has been honored with Runner Up for thePOMS (Production and Operations Management Society) Wickham Skinner Award fo rBest Paper published in Production and Operations Management during 2013. The winning paper, "Structuring Work Distribution for Global Product Development Organizations," is co-authored with MIT Sloan PhD graduate Anshuman Tripathy.

Steven Eppinger is the recipient of the PICMET Medal of Excellence Award, given by the Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology (PICMET). This award “recognizes extraordinary achievements of individuals in any discipline for their outstanding contributions to science, engineering and technology management.”

Stew Myers's appointment was announced earlier this month at the ECGI's General Assembly in Barcelona. The ECGI, which was founded in 2002, is an international scientific non-profit association. It provides a forum for debate and dialogue between academics, legislators and practitioners, focusing on major corporate governance issues and thereby promoting best practice.

Stew Myers is a co-winner of the 2009 III Edition of the Jaime Fernandez de Araoz Corporate Finance Award, which was created to encourage the development of knowledge within the field of corporate finance by rewarding individuals or teams that contribute to this field through their research work or applied experience. The award was for the paper "The Internal Governance of Firms" (joint with Viral V. Acharya and Raghuram Rajan), for opening new and pathbreaking insights into corporate governance structures which had not been explored up to date in the classical agency theory perspective, as well as opening very promising research possibilities for scholarly work in this area.

Stewart Myers has won the 2015 Onassis Prize for Finance, for his “foundational contributions to finance since the beginning of its transformation to a rigorous science-based discipline, nearly a half century ago.” The prestigious honor recognizes Myers for “his influential research on capital structure and capital budgeting valuation.”

Andrew Sutherland has won the Best Archival Paper Award from the American Accounting Association’s Auditing Section 2020 Midyear Meeting, for the best conference paper using archival research methods. Sutherland’s winning paper, co-authored with Jonathan Cook (Public Company Accounting Oversight Board), Zachary Kowaleski (University of Notre Dame), Michael Minnis (University of Chicago−Booth), and Karla M. Zehms (University of Wisconsin−Madison), is entitled, “Auditors are Known by the Companies They Keep.” 

Andrew Sutherland (Ford International Career Development Associate Professor of Accounting) has received the 25th annual Glen McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting and Ethics from the Steed School of Accounting at the University of Oklahoma’s Price College of Business. This award recognizes outstanding unpublished work that is interdisciplinary in “contributing to the understanding of ethical concepts, and then applying this understanding to accounting issues in an effective way.”

Sutherland’s winning paper, entitled “Supervisor Influence on Employee Misconduct,” was co-authored with Zachary T. Kowaleski (University of Texas at Austin) and Felix Vetter (University of Mannheim).

David Thesmar has won the 2017 Brattle Group Distinguished Paper Prize. This annual award recognizes outstanding papers on corporate finance published in The Journal of Finance, the official publication of The American Finance Association. Thesmar’s winning paper, published in February 2017 and co-authored with Martin Schmalz (Michigan Ross) and David Sraer (Berkeley Haas), is entitled, “Housing Collateral and Entrepreneurship” (The Journal of Finance, 72(1):99-132). The award was presented at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the American Finance Association.

Nikos Trichakis won third place for the 2018 INFORMS TIMES (Technology, Innovation Management & Entrepreneurship Section) Best Working Paper Award, for “Blockchain and the Value of Operational Transparency for Supply Chain Finance,” co-authored with Jiri Chod (Boston College), Gerry Tsoukalas (Wharton), Henry Aspegren (MIT MEng grad; Tsinghua University), and Mark Weber (MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab).

Nikolaos Trichakis has won the 2020 INFORMS Koopman Prize. Along with co-authors David Simchi-Levi (MIT) and Peter Yun Zhang (Carnegie Mellon University), Trichakis was honored for the paper, “Designing Response Supply Chain Against Bioattacks.” The Koopman Prize is given for the outstanding publication in military operations research of the previous year.
