Yanchong (Karen) Zheng has received a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for her project entitled “A Closed-Loop Methodology for Investigating Trust, Culture, and Information Sharing in Global Supply Chains.” CAREER Awards are the NSF’s “most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.”

Karen Zheng has won Second Prize in the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences Behavioral Operations Management Section Best Working Paper Competition. Zheng was honored for her working paper, “Transparency and Indirect Reciprocity in Social Responsibility: An Incentivized Experiment,” co-authored with Tim Kraft (of the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business) and her PhD student Leon Valdes (of MIT Sloan).

Gordon Kaufman has been appointed the 2015 International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) Distinguished Lecturer, responsible for giving a series of lectures. Kaufman gave the IAMG Distinguished Lecture at the Association’s Annual Conference in New Delhi last fall and has lectured at Stanford’s Petroleum Engineering Department and the U.S. Geological Survey’s University of Arizona branch.

Catherine Tucker has won the Erin Anderson Award given by the American Marketing Association Foundation (AMAF). The annual award recognizes an emerging female marketing scholar and mentor. “Professor Tucker … sets a leading example for women early in their career, demonstrating how they can balance their academic lives with their personal ones and find success in both areas,” stated the award committee chair.

Juanjuan Zhang  and Georgia Perakis have each received the 2014 Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching, established to honor educational innovation and excellence. The Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching Award is the most prestigious teaching prize offered by the School. The award was established in 2006 and is awarded each year to two MIT Sloan faculty members, as well as two electrical engineering and computer science faculty members, for their contributions to educational excellence at MIT.

Mark Kritzman has won a Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy Outstanding Article Award. The annual award recognizes research excellence in the theory and practice of portfolio management. The paper, co-authored with William Kinlaw and David Turkington (both of State Street), is entitled “The Divergence of High- and Low-Frequency Estimation: Causes and Consequences.”

AAAS Fellows are recognized by their peers for their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. This honor recognizes Utterback's "distinguished contributions to the fields of technological and scientific innovation in engineering and industry through his longtime leadership efforts in research, teaching, and technology." The new AAAS Fellows were announced in the journal Science on November 29.

Retsef Levi’s paper, “Matching Supply and Demand: Delayed Two-Phase Distribution at Yedioth Group – Models, Algorithms, and Information Technology,” was awarded the 2013 INFORMS Daniel H. Wagner prize for Excellence in Operations Research Practice. The prize was established in 1998 to commemorate the life and work of Daniel H. MIT Sloan Senior Lecturer, Mark Kritzman has won the 2013 Peter L. Bernstein Award for Best Paper in an Institutional Investor Journal. The award honors outstanding, compelling research published in any of Institutional Investor's 10 journals over the past year. The winning paper, "Liquidity and Portfolio Choice: A Unified Approach" (The Journal of Portfolio Management, Winter 2013), is co-authored with Will Kinlaw and David Turkington (both of State Street). The article illustrates how managers can employ simulation techniques to quantify how much their unique portfolios benefit from liquidity or suffer from illiquidity. It also shows how they can use this information to construct portfolios that take liquidity considerations into account.

John Hauser won the Buck Weaver Award from the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science in 2013. The Buck Weaver Award is an annual award that "honors distinguished scholars and practitioners who have excelled in the achievement of rigor and relevance in marketing science."
