Retsef Levi and his co-authors Mahesh Nagarajan from UBC and Ganesh Janakiraman from NYU Stern, were chosen to receive the INFORMS Optimization Society Young Researcher Prize at the INFORMS annual conference in October for their paper entitled "A 2-Approximation Algorithm for Stochastic Inventory Control Models with Lost Sales" that appeared in Mathematics of Operations Research.

The papers being reprinted in the Classics Issue is: John Hauser and Steven Shugan, "Defensive Marketing Strategies," originally published in 1983. This Classics Issue celebrates foundation research that is highly cited. Editorials from Editors-in-Chief along with author commentaries are included with the articles in this special issue.

John Hauser has been listed as a Highly Cited Researcher from the ISI Web of Science since 2006. According to the ISI, Highly Cited Researchers encompass a diverse range of research fields in the sciences and social sciences.

John R. Hauser was elected as a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) in 2006. INFORMS Fellows are chosen for 
"their lifetime achievement in operations research and the management sciences."

John Hauser and John D.C. Little were elected as inaugural Fellows of ISMS (the INFORMS Society of Marketing Science) at the 30th Annual Marketing Science Conference in Vancouver, BC. The 10 Fellows Awards were given in recognition of significant, long-term contributions in research, education, and service to the Society of Marketing Science's efforts to improve the understanding and practice of marketing.

John Hauser won the Parlin Award from the American Marketing Association in 2001. The AMA describes this award as “the oldest and most distinguished award in the marketing research field.” The award was established as a tribute to Charles Coolidge Parlin, known as the founder of marketing research, according to the AMA.

John Hauser won the Paul D. Converse Award in 1996 for “outstanding contributions to the development of the science of marketing.” The American Marketing Association established the Converse Award in 1946.

John Hauser won the MIT Sloan School Excellence in Teaching Award in 1994. Each year, students nominate instructors for these teaching awards, and the final recipients are chosen based on the quantity and quality of their nominations.

Jim Orlin has won the ACM SIGecom Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on E-commerce) Test of Time Award, which recognizes papers published between 10 and 25 years ago that have had “significant impact on research or applications that exemplify the interplay of economics and computation.” Orlin’s winning paper, (co-authored with John J. Bartholdi, III of Georgia Tech), is entitled “Single Transferable Vote Resists Strategic Voting.” The award committee characterized this paper as being one of two that in many ways catalyzed an entire field, noting its influence on the subfield of computational social choice.

Otto Scharmer has received the Leonardo Award 2016 in Thought Leadership, a Leonardo European Corporate Learning Award addressing the “future of learning.” The award recognizes the value and contribution of Scharmer’s management method “Theory U.”
