Ed Schein is the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Practitioner Scholar Award, an Academy of Management (AOM) Career Achievement Award. This award recognizes, over the course of a career, significant contributions in using practice-based learning to influence theory and/or research-based theory to influence the practice of management.

Edgar Schein is the recipient of the 2015 Beckhard Award for outstanding contribution to the field of Organization Development. This annual award is given by the International Organization Development Association (IODA). The award recognizes Schein’s lifetime achievement and “many years of distinguished, continuous contribution.”

Eric von Hippel was awarded the Innovation Luminary Award from the European Commission for his “excellent and groundbreaking work in…‘Democratizing Innovation.’” Earlier winners include Stephen Hawking, Richard Branson, and Bill Drayton. von Hippel also received the 2015 Innovative Management Partner (IMP) Excellence in Innovation Research Award from the University of Innsbruck School of Management, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research in strategy and innovation.

Vivek Farias and Eric So (Accounting) were each awarded the 2020 Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching, established to honor educational innovation and excellence. The Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching Award is the most prestigious teaching prize offered by the school. The award was established in 2006 and is awarded each year to two MIT Sloan faculty members, as well as two electrical engineering and computer science faculty members, for their contributions to educational excellence at MIT. The Jamieson faculty prize is selected by a review committee at MIT.

Vivek F. Farias’ paper, Primal-Dual Algorithms for Order Fulfillment at Urban Outfitters, Inc., was a Finalist for the INFORMS 2018 Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research Practice. Farias’ co-authors were J.M. Andrews, A.I. Khojandi, and C.M. Yan. The Wagner Prize was established in 1998 to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Daniel H. Wagner. 

Fiona Murray's winning paper is titled "Trading in the shadow of the market: An analysis of layman-scientist exchange relationships in genetics."

Fiona Murray has been honored with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) award for her contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship as part of the Queen of England’s Diplomatic Service and Overseas “New Year 2015 Honours List,” which recognizes Britons for their exceptional service to Britain overseas.

Andrew W. Lo has been named Risk Manager of the Year for 2017 by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). Lo was cited for his “extensive and distinguished academic work and contributions to the risk management profession.” “Andrew is an inspiration to all of us who believe that risk management is everyone's responsibility and should be solidly embedded in the culture and decision-making processes of every organization,” said Richard Apostolik, GARP president and CEO. Apostolik added that Lo joins a distinguished line of honorees “who have contributed in exceptional ways to risk management and the risk profession.”

Georgia Perakis has been selected to be an INFORMS Fellow, Class of 2016. The INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) award honors “distinguished individuals who have demonstrated outstanding and exceptional accomplishments in operations research and the management sciences.” Perakis was cited for “exceptional research, spanning theory to practice with important contributions to variational inequalities, the price of anarchy, dynamic pricing and data analytics, and for her dedicated mentorship of a future generation of operations research scholars.”

Georgia Perakis won the 2016 Best Paper Award Competition of the INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) Service Science Section. Her winning paper, co-authored with Lennart Baardman (MIT Operations Research Center PhD student), Maxime C. Cohen (New York University Stern School of Business assistant professor), Kiran Panchamgam (Oracle Retail Science), and Danny Segev (University of Haifa Dept. of Statistics), is entitled “Scheduling Promotion Vehicles to Boost Profits.”
